They say of Lio Kuokman – astonishing talent! He is a laureate of the prestigious Svetlanov Competition (Paris, 2014), assistant conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and artistic director of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble – a passionate and gifted young musician with a brilliant career in both the opera world and the symphonic arena. In Riga, under his direction, we will hear Schumann’s Third, or “Rhenish”, Symphony, born of an inspiring journey with his beloved Clara through the beautiful Rhineland. The programme also includes Chopin’s Piano Concerto in F minor, whose slow movement leads us into a realm of endless tenderness. The soloist will be an outstanding interpreter of Chopin’s music – audience favourite pianist Georgijs Osokins.
Before the concert, at 18:18 in the Munster Hall, in the traditional “Pre-Concert Conversations”, Orests Silabriedis will talk with conductor Lio Kuokman about Robert Schumann, the Rhine, and the house in Bonn.
