Conductor Tarmo PELTOKOSKI
Programme:
Kaija SAARIAHO Laterna Magica
Richard STRAUSS An Alpine Symphony
In two concerts separated by a 450-kilometre journey, Tarmo Peltokoski and the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra will perform Laterna Magica by the conductor’s compatriot Kaija Saariaho, a piece named after both the autobiography of the renowned film director Ingmar Bergman and the 17th-century invention that served as an early image projector. The programme also includes An Alpine Symphony by Richard Strauss, requiring a particularly large orchestra and portraying the grandeur of nature and a lengthy ascent into the mountains.
