Conductor Gérard KORSTEN

Programme:

Joseph HAYDN Symphony no. 69

Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra

Ludwig van BEETHOVEN Symphony no. 7

Three Viennese classics come together in this LNSO concert programme. Haydn’s Symphony no. 69, also known as Laudon, is named after Austrian general Ernst Gideon von Laudon, whose roots can interestingly be traced back to Vidzeme, Latvia. Mozart composes his Bassoon Concerto when he is only 18, becoming one of the first to showcase the wide range of colours and nuances possible with wind instruments. Meanwhile, Beethoven’s Symphony no. 7 celebrates Napoleon’s misfortunes, with its second movement becoming an immediate symphonic favourite since its first performance.
