As part of the Recovery Fund’s support programme for improving energy efficiency and transitioning to renewable energy resources in state buildings, including historic buildings used for cultural purposes, the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFLA) has signed contracts for investment in the buildings of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet and the Great Guild, as well as several other sites. In total, the programme plans to invest EUR 23.9 million of Recovery Fund investment in improving energy efficiency.

“Improving energy efficiency in historic cultural buildings is an important step towards a green course in culture as well. In buildings such as the Great Guild, it is important not only to preserve cultural heritage, but also to ensure comfortable, quality use of the building for artists and visitors alike. At the same time, measures are planned such as window restoration to improve the building’s insulation, roof insulation to reduce heat loss, and rebuilding and improving the building’s internal heating, ventilation and cooling systems, in order to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy consumption. These measures will help reduce the building’s energy consumption and its environmental impact, thereby promoting sustainable, energy-efficient infrastructure, as well as ensuring pleasant conditions at the Great Guild for concerts.” In total, around EUR 14 million is planned to be invested in the Great Guild development project.

“LNSO is extremely happy and gratified that the long-awaited Great Guild renovation project has finally reached its implementation phase. Over several years, we believe a very good project has been carefully developed. We now hope for an excellent and successful realisation of this project!” says Indra Lukina, director of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
