Already on Thursday, 10 April, at 19:00 at the Music House “Daile,” chamber music lovers are invited to this season’s final concert in the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra’s (LNSO) chamber music series, “Ravel, Khachaturian and Maskats,” where pianist Elina Bertina will be joined in various chamber configurations by violinist Darja Smirnova, flautist Maija Zandberga and clarinettist Martins Circenis. The concert will be hosted by Liene Jakovleva.
The programme features chamber works by composers of various countries and styles, offering interpretations of both established chamber music classics and contemporary, sonically unconventional works. The concert will feature Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, Jacques Ibert’s Two Interludes for flute, violin and piano, Aram Khachaturian’s brilliant Clarinet Trio, Charles Ives’ Largo for violin and piano, as well as works by American composer Robert Muczynski, British flautist and composer Ian Clarke, and French composer Guillaume Connesson. LNSO composer-in-residence Arturs Maskats has specially arranged his symphonic work “August Stars” (tango) for this chamber ensemble, which received its world premiere only at the end of last December with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Guntis Kuzma.
Performing in the concert will be the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra’s deputy principal flute, Maija Zandberga (laureate of the Great Music Award 2023, an active participant in LNSO’s chamber music series); principal clarinet of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and Sinfonietta Riga, Martins Circenis (laureate of the Great Music Award 2021, who has performed as soloist with most of Latvia’s professional orchestras and once founded the wind ensemble Quintus Anima); deputy concertmaster of LNSO’s first violins and soloist with the chamber orchestra Sinfonia Concertante, Darja Smirnova (one of the initiators behind the founding of the orchestra Sinfonia Concertante, and a former guest concertmaster of the German Radio Philharmonic Saarbrucken Kaiserslautern); as well as pianist Elina Bertina, who performs both as a soloist and in tandem with other outstanding musicians, a Great Music Award 2021 nominee who has performed with the LNSO, the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Riga, Sinfonia Concertante, the Olsztyn Philharmonic Orchestra and the German String Philharmonic.
