Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

At the annual grand concert of Latvian symphonic music the LNSO is glad to take part with music by the great anniversary figure of 2017, Pēteris Plakidis, and by his former student (marking an anniversary of her own) Gundega Šmite. From Plakidis we will hear his wonderful
“Song” – a classic of the symphonic repertoire, written in 1986. From Šmite, who lives in Greece, comes a new work – a colourful concerto shot through with the rhythms of Greek dance, written for an instrument to which Latvian composers have so far turned only rarely.

Also taking part arethe Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under Atvars Lakstīgala and the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra, conducted by Mārtiņš Ozoliņš.

The concert is organised by Latvijas Koncerti.
