PEAKS OF THE CLASSICS. TCHAIKOVSKY’S FIRST PIANO CONCERTO
Friday
19:00
Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

Two large-scale works. One of them hugely popular, and in it we meet the pianist Anton Lyakhovsky, who with as much power as skill can uncover unheard-of depths in any score he takes up. Tchaikovsky’s “seventh” symphony, “Manfred”, is a rarer visitor to concert bills, but it too is an impressive piece, for here we are dealing with Alpine landscapes, the hero of a Romantic ghost story, the presence of every kind of spirit and spectre, and a lost beloved whose intended summoning back from the dead ends with the hero swept into a bacchanal and then into death.
