On 1 March 2018, the Great Guild concert hall will host a charity concert by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) and beloved Latvian musicians, “I Will Come, So That You May Live”, organised in support of colleague Sondra Zaļupe and other cancer patients.
In the first part of the concert, under the direction of LNSO’s second conductor Guntis Kuzma the orchestra will perform the brilliant, witty overture to Leonard Bernstein’s comic operetta “Candide”; also to be heard is Igor Stravinsky’s joyful “Russian Dance” from the ballet “Petrushka”, Dita Krenberga will perform as soloist in Claude Debussy’s gentle miniature “The Girl with the Flaxen Hair” (version with orchestra),Xylem Triowill perform Maurice Ravel’s iconic “Boléro” with the LNSO, Raimonds Pauls will perform as soloist in his own wonderful, joyful “Rhapsody”.
In the second part of the concert, their most beautiful songs will be performed by Linda Leen, Ieva Kerēvica, Ieva Sutugova, Intars Busulis, Kārlis Lācis, Kaspars Zemītis, Miks Dukurs, the vocal group “Latvian Voices“, the group “Musiqq” and the choir “Maska” led by Jānis Ozols.
The concert is organised by the LNSO, the “LNSO Foundation”, the charity organisation Ziedot.lv, and Communication Art. Proceeds from ticket sales will help Sondra Zaļupe and cancer patients. Sondra Zaļupe is a 31-year-old woman, mother to a one-year-old baby girl, and partner of musician Rihards Zaļupe. In her professional life she has followed her heart and embraced challenges in the creative field, both heading public relations and marketing at the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and supporting the creative work of the vocal group Latvian Voices. Sondra’s days and her joy in her baby are now overshadowed by a serious illness.
“I still can’t quite grasp what is happening. But even now I am grateful for every person in my life and in our family’s life. I am grateful to friends and relatives for their support, to grandparents who, without a moment’s hesitation, come from Talsi and Liepāja to look after us and our little one when I am away or utterly exhausted. It is terribly hard for me to accept this situation, since I am used to being the one who supports others, but I believe everything happens for a higher purpose, and I hope my struggle will inspire others to love, support and cherish every day we are given together with our loved ones in this wonderful world,” says Sondra.
