LNSO SEASON CLOSING CONCERT. PARALLELS: CHICHON AND ŠIMKUS
Thursday
19:00
Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

Vestards Šimkus renews his successful partnership with the LNSO’s former artistic director and chief conductor Karel Mark Chichon and performs as soloist in Debussy’s Fantaisie, which is not so much music as, first, a scent, and then a dance. In the second part of the concert – Richard Strauss’s portrait of Don Juan, and reflections prompted by Strauss’s musings on life beyond (death).

But what interests us most is Latvian composer Andris Dzenītis’ recently composed opus, Langsam, which was premiered under maestro Chichon’s direction in Saarbrücken in the autumn of 2016. Its inspiration draws on the slow movements of great predecessors’ symphonies. The composer says: “This music gradually leads towards the light.”

At 6:18 pm, the Münster Hall will host Orests Silabriedis’ “Pre-concert Talk” with composer Andris Dzenītis,
