BRAHMS CONCERTO AND DVOŘÁK SYMPHONY
Friday
19:00
Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

An evening of classical, beautiful and emotionally captivating works. In the first half – Brahms’s monumental Violin Concerto with its delicate, almost fragile slow movement, in which, as violinists like to joke, the only melody in this opus is played by the oboe. It will be a pleasure to welcome to Riga the outstanding guest from the Netherlands Simone Lamsma – a soloist sought after by the world’s finest orchestras. The second half, meanwhile, brings a symphonic superhit – Dvořák’s Symphony “From the New World”, in which the influence of Native American and African-American music blends with the composer’s own impressions from living and working in New York.

6.18 pm at the Munster Hall – “Pre-concert Talks”. Orests Silabriedis’s guest will be literary scholar, linguist and University of Latvia professor Ojārs Lāms. The topic of discussion – Romanticism in art. THE CONCERT PROGRAMME IS AVAILABLE HERE.
