The concert also features cellist Kristīne Blaumane, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius performing works by Alfrēds Kalniņš and Kristaps Pētersons

In this concert the LNSO has been given the honour of celebrating Tālivaldis Ķeniņš’s 100th anniversary. The scope of Ķeniņš’s talent is great, his professional craftsmanship is brilliant, and the breadth and the very highest quality mark his achievements in composition, teaching and writing about music. Ķeniņš is an entirely unique and incomparable asset to Latvian music, and, God willing, in this anniversary year we will broaden and deepen our understanding of this. The Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra reminds us that Ķeniņš learned composition in the French school, and playing boldly with sounds is in his blood. Alongside it – a new work by Linda Leimane, perhaps the strongest composer of the younger generation, in which the author plays with the effect of a mirror image in her musical language.
