TRISTAN AND ISOLDE. A LOVE SONG

19:00
Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

A celebration for Wagnerians – Andris Poga’s long-cherished wish comes true, to plunge into waves of vocal-symphonic love and celebrate the story of Tristan and Isolde’s so deeply longed-for and impossible relationship. The best of the best will sing: Irene Theorin, known on the world’s finest stages; one of the most sought-after Wagnerian tenors, Corby Welch (unforgettable as Lohengrin at the “LNSO summer house”, as well as Erik and Tannhäuser at the LNO); Martina Dike (whom we have seen at the LNO as Fricka and Venus); and our own distinguished Wagnerian compatriot Egils Siliņš. There will also be the unimaginably beautiful “Liebestod” (how could there not be), while the tuning-up will take place with Jean Sibelius’s brilliant and laconic Symphony No. 7, which stands, in a metaphysical way, beyond any analysis or understanding.

At 6.18 pm, in the “Pre-concert Talks”, music historian and devoted Wagnerian Mikus Čeže and Orests Silabriedis will discuss the facet of love in Richard Wagner’s life and work.
