On 25 October, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra’s centenary celebration concert series reached its grand culmination with a magnificent performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, bringing together LNSO musicians, soloists, opera star Elīna Garanča and acclaimed soprano Liene Kinča, as well as the singers of the State Academic Choir Latvija, under the musical direction of the charismatic conductor Karel Mark Chichon.
- The LNSO centenary celebrations began on 6 August with a performance of Richard Wagner’s opera Lohengrin under the baton of Tarmo Peltokoski at the Cēsis Art Festival.
- From 19 to 22 August, the orchestra embarked on a concert tour of France, performing at the Berlioz Festival and the La Chaise-Dieu Festival together with the singers of the State Academic Choir Latvija and conductor Andris Poga.
- At the end of August, the celebrations continued at the LNSO Summer House festival, established more than a decade ago and held this year in Rēzekne.
- In September, the LNSO once again took part in the International Sacred Music Festival organised by the State Academic Choir Latvija.
- In its symphonic concerts, the LNSO collaborated with violinist Baiba Skride, the orchestra’s Artist-in-Residence, organist Iveta Apkalna, as well as conductors Kristiina Poska, Principal Guest Conductor of the orchestra, and the orchestra’s close musical friend, the French maestro Jean-Claude Casadesus.
