A NIGHT OF CALCULATION. SCHUMANN AND SHCHEDRIN LNSO CHAMBER MUSIC
Thursday
19:00
Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

A concert in the LNSO chamber music series with outstanding musicians seasoned in the finest ensemble playing. Taking part are LNSO first violin Georgs Sarkisjans, a player in the LNSO first violin sectionOskars Siliņš, Kremerata Baltica viola section principal Santa Vižine, LNSO cello section principal Ieva Upatniece, LNSO principal clarinet Mārtiņš Circenis and the brilliant stage partner of Latvia’s finest chamber musicians – pianist Agnese Egliņa.

The theme of the programme is adventures in the night. There will be music by Robert Schumann – his weighty, imagination-stirring “Fairy Tales”, there will be a gently fever-inducing work by the contemporary German composer: Jörg Widmann’s “Fieberphantasie”, there will be Imants Zemzaris and his tale of the eternal theme of day and night never meeting, “The Night Watchman and the Washerwoman”, we will also hear Pēteris Plakidis and his mysterious “Night Conversations”, we will be entertained by Rodion Shchedrin’s “Merry Pieces” and there is also a suspicion that in front of one of the windows of the Great Guild there will be a sleep elephant, whose coming into the world is the responsibility of Maija Einfelde.

The musicians themselves say: “This is insomnia, when thoughts wander down paths never taken, and the borderlines between waking and dreaming.”

As is customary in the “LNSO Chamber Music” series, this will be not merely a string of pieces but a story, which the narrator Orests Silabriedis will weave together with the musicians into a single adventure. Be warned: “A Night of Calculation” may at times turn quite incalculable.
