The queen of organ music, Iveta APKALNA, together with an outstanding ensemble of Latvian National Symphony Orchestra musicians, invites audiences to experience the power, splendour and astonishing variety of the organ. In a programme where Baroque mystery meets the expressivity and virtuosity of contemporary music, we will hear VITALI’s famous Chaconne, whose origins remain the subject of discussion, Pēteris Vasks’s subtly meditative “Evening Music” and Maija Einfelde’s expressionist Benedictus, as well as two contrasting interpretations of Danse macabre: Saint-Saëns’s nocturnal, satanic contest between two melodies and Feller’s wild, virtuosic dance. Ilona BREĢE’s new work for organ adds another, entirely fresh colour to this musical adventure.
