The competition for young wind players closes with a solo appearance by a world-renowned musician and a new work. The Swiss flautist Felix Renggli is one of the outstanding flautists of our time. He will serve on the jury of the Jurjāns Competition, and at the closing concert we will have the chance to hear his dazzling playing in a classical flute concerto. The new work has been written by Ilona Breģe, a connoisseur of Riga’s musical history, and, in a salute to the competitors on woodwind instruments, the seemingly weightier brass – trumpet, trombone and tuba – will this time compete in the sheer joy of playing.
