DJ MONSTA AND THE SYMPHONIC KOKLE FACTOR – LNSO CHAMBER MUSIC
Thursday
19:00
Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

In this chamber music programme, the LNSO musicians’ ensemble has included Rabih Abou-Khalil’s “Arabian Waltz” for string quartet and DJ, by Latvian intellectual Rolands Kronlaks’ “Conversion” for oboe and string quartet, along with a fitting complement to it all – Alfred Schnittke’s quartet, in which echoes of the Renaissance (Orlando di Lasso’s sacred music), Beethovenian classicism (“Große Fuge” Op. 133) and postmodernism (Shostakovich’s DSCH monogram) all resonate. Also here, with acoustic and amplified kokles, gongs and bells, is the talented kokle player Laima Jansone, who is composing a new work especially for this programme, and DJ Monsta, whose intellectual play consistently reveals excellent taste and inexhaustible invention.
