The brilliant organist Iveta Apkalna, honorary artist of Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and Raimonds Pauls, master of melodies and a unique improvisation style, meet on stage and in music for the first time. Pauls’s talent will be on display in his miniature from the series Naktstauriņi (The Moths), theatre music, and score from the film Homo novus. Pauls is also a long‑time friend of his like-minded colleague, heartfelt Georgian composer Kancheli, whose best film scores are arranged in a dazzling suite. The magnificence and scope of the organ will appear in Barber’s Toccata festiva, where lightning speed contrasts with melodic episodes, brilliant fanfares – with pensive retreats.
