As a boy, young Edward wrote a few childish miniatures for his relatives, and while working at the Worcester lunatic asylum he also composed some dances. Forty years later, the seasoned Elgar took these works from his childhood and orchestrated them, and now we have Elgarian bells, butterflies, fountains, tame and wild bears, fairies and giants, dusk and brilliant sunlight.
The concert performance takes place in Russian.
