In 2005, German composer Detlev Glanert orchestrates Johannes Brahms’ Four Serious Songs, creating a continuous score that seamlessly integrates the songs with preludes and an orchestral postlude. This unified work features an exciting and unrestricted harmonic language paired with dark, lush orchestration. Meanwhile, in his final completed symphony, the Ninth, Mahler reflects on life and death, offering a profound farewell.
