Pēteris PLAKIDIS — Dziedājums
On stage meet the LNSO’s new concertmaster, violinist Daniils BULAJEVS, and one of Latvia’s most important conductors, Normunds ŠNĒ. Their programme leads through three distinct yet emotionally closely related musical worlds. Schumann’s Op. 52, Overture, Scherzo and Finale, was written during a happy period in the composer’s life after his marriage to Clara Wieck, yet alongside its celebratory brilliance the music also contains a mysterious tension and dramatic unrest. In Ginastera’s Violin Concerto echoes of Argentina’s traditional music mingle with a modern musical language, producing an extremely virtuosic and technically demanding work. Pēteris PLAKIDIS’s Dziedājums, meanwhile, gradually moves from intense drama and tension toward inner peace and reconciliation.
