Iveta APKALNA – organ
Conductor: Jean‑Claude CASADESUS
Programme:
Hector BERLIOZ — Le Carnaval romain
Camille SAINT‑SAËNS — Symphony No. 3 (the “Organ Symphony”)
Francis POULENC — Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani
The LNSO’s first encounter this season with its artist‑in‑residence, the world‑renowned organist Iveta Apkalna, will take place in October in Riga and Rēzekne as part of the festival ORGANismi. Joining her on stage will be the beloved French maestro Jean‑Claude Casadesus, inviting listeners to enjoy gems of the French repertoire — Hector Berlioz’s colourful and fiery Roman Carnival, and Francis Poulenc’s Organ Concerto, one of the most frequently performed works ever written for the instrument.
Camille Saint‑Saëns’ tribute to the memory of Franz Liszt — his Symphony No. 3 — was composed at the height of the composer’s creative powers. Alongside the full symphonic orchestra, the score features the majestic sound of the organ, making this work one of the most impressive pillars of the French symphonic tradition.
