Wolfgang Amadeus MOZART Symphony No. 39
Antonín DVOŘÁK The Hero’s Song
Antonín DVOŘÁK Cello Concerto
One of Mozart’s three legendary final symphonies, Symphony No. 39, was first described in these words: “The opening is so majestic that it so surprised even the coldest, most insensitive listener and put him in a position to become all ears.” The music of radiant elegance and remarkable emotional breadth balances Classical clarity with a growing sense of drama. Dvořák’s The Hero’s Song is a powerful symphonic poem portraying a spiritual being, an artist, and leading listeners through the storm of his struggle to the ultimate triumph of the idea. Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, one of the great works of the cello repertoire, is richly lyrical and deeply personal; it combines sweeping orchestral drama with intimate, singing passages for the soloist. On stage with the LNSO – remarkable French cellist Edgar Moreau and the world-renowned German conductor Christian Reif.
