LNSO SEASON CLOSING CONCERT. ANGELICH AND POGA
Friday
19:00
Venue Lielā ģilde, Amatu iela, Central District, Riga, Latvia

In June, Vilnis Šmīdbergs celebrates a major anniversary, and in his honour the LNSO season-closing programme features almost a new work – a Symphony Concerto long shelved, now given a polished new form and waiting to remind us of the outstanding anniversary composer’s youthful Sturm und Drang. We are always delighted to welcome Nicholas Angelich as a guest of LNSO, and the chance to hear Prokofiev’s Third Concerto makes this meeting especially anticipated. Crowning the programme is Brahms’s monumental First, which each time prompts us anew to search for – and, who knows, perhaps find – the keys to the soul of this reserved and enigmatic genius.

At 18.18 in the Munich Hall the traditional Pre-Concert Talk will take place, hosted by Orests Silabriedis. We will talk about what is essential in Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto, revisit what is known about Brahms’s First Symphony, and ask composer Vilnis Šmīdbergs about the “Symphony Concerto” that lay in a drawer for an incredibly long time and has now taken on a new form.
