Juris Karlsons has created a new work for piano and orchestra, with the profound virtuoso Andrejs Osokins as soloist. From the former Riga modernist Romuālds Grīnblats we bring his Symphony No. 6 “Intervals” – never before performed in Latvia and considered by its composer to be his finest work. And among the familiar – Tchaikovsky’s dramatic tone poem “Francesca da Rimini”, telling the tragic love story of the Ravenna beauty described in Dante’s “Divine Comedy”, along with Ravel’s famous “La Valse”, which nearly forced its composer to defend his honour in a duel. A concert for curious listeners who value the familiar yet crave the unknown.
