Following the opening concert of “LNSO vasarnīca” (LNSO Summer Cottage) – Matīss Čudars’ guitar playing and the Latvian feature film included in the “Cannes Classics” programme of the 2018 Cannes International Film Festival – Roland Kalniņš’s “Four White Shirts”, whose screening will close the film and music evenings season at the Latgale Culture and Information Centre GORS.
Matīss Čudars is one of the brightest guitarists of the young generation of Latvian musicians, forging his own path in music. He plays in several creative ensembles (including “Spāre”), and collaborates with the Latvian Radio Choir, the LNSO, and Sinfonietta Rīga. He feels most at home in improvisation, though he is currently pursuing focused studies in composition. He was a nominee for the Great Music Award 2017 in the category “Musician of the Year”.
The film “Four White Shirts” (1967) is a joint work by director Roland Kalniņš and cameraman Miks Zvirbulis, which fit perfectly into the modernist trends prevailing in the film world of the time; however, because of its free-thinking spirit and irony, it was deemed undesirable for the Soviet citizen and shelved for 20 years.
Starring: Uldis Pūcītis, Dina Kuple, Līga Liepiņa, Arnolds Liniņš, Pauls Butkēvičs and others. The film features popular songs by Imants Kalniņš and Māris Čaklais, including “They Danced One Summer”, “The Voice of the Cuckoo”, “I Am Rich”, and others.
We will meet on GORS’s “Roof Terrace”, with the wonderful atmosphere of a late summer night and a view over beautiful Rēzekne.
Although the GORS staff will have taken care of heating lamps and blankets, we still encourage visitors to dress as warmly as possible. In case of bad weather, the venue may change.
Ticket price – €7. For participants of the GORS Culture Ambassador programme, the admission ticket price is €6.
