To open – Béla Bartók’s spirited “Dance Suite”, saturated with ethnic rhythms, with which the brilliant Hungarian celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the unification of Buda and Pest. Next comes another Hungarian composer – Miklós Rózsa, whose richly romantic Viola Concerto is well known to violists, but which remains unjustly little-known to wider audiences. Now there’s a chance to fill in that gap and hear how the LNSO, together with the orchestra’s principal viola Ināra Brīnuma, gives her own reading of Rózsa’s concerto. Finally, Beethoven and his Seventh Symphony – a textbook masterpiece with a ritualistic slow movement and a finale bursting with rays of light. What kind of reading of the symphony will Junichi Hirokami offer us this time?
The concert’s conductor – guest from Japan Junichi Hirokami, who, a year and a half ago, surprised Latvian audiences with deep and moving readings of Schubert’s and Beethoven’s music.
