Philip GLASS – Second Concerto for Cello and Orchestra Naqoyqatsi
American silent film Safety Last! starring Harold Lloyd
Harold Lloyd was one of the greatest stars of the silent film era, so those in the know tell us. Most people will have seen, if nothing else, at least the famous scene in which Lloyd’s draper’s assistant dangles from a clock high in the air above the crowds and the street traffic. That is a scene from the 1923 filmSafety Last!, and it is a very funny film indeed – provided you can forget, while watching, that you are a serious grown-up. For anyone afraid of heights, though, it will be not only a comedy but a proper thriller as well. Before the film – Philip Glass’s Second Cello Concerto, built from the quintessentially Glassian music he composed forNaqoyqatsi, the final film of the so-called Qatsi trilogy.
