Press information, 27 March 2025. Very soon – on Saturday, 12 April, in two performances at 11:00 and 14:00 at Hanzas Perons – the youngest concertgoers will have the chance to travel across the Atlantic Ocean together with the puppet LeNeSOns, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) and conductor Raimonds Gulbis, in the concert programme “LeNeSOns Discovers North America.” The programme will feature works by Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin.

The children’s friend LeNeSOns has for several years now delighted young listeners with exciting musical adventures. Earlier this year, audiences enjoyed a sunny concert programme dedicated to Latin America, and this time children will have the chance to set off with a sense of first discovery on an exciting journey to North America, getting to know the music of outstanding American composer Aaron Copland, outstanding conductor and musical theatre composer Leonard Bernstein, and pioneer of American academic music George Gershwin, thereby opening up new musical horizons.

To ensure the “LeNeSOns” concert series events are both entertaining and substantive and educational, a wonderful creative team works on the productions: director Paula Plavniece, dramaturge Klavs Mellis, and artist Austra Snikere. The mood of the journey will be brought to life by the puppet LeNeSOns and his friends, played by actors Anastasija Rekuta-Dzordzevica, Agris Krapivnickis and Arturs Putnins. Concert performances about LeNeSOns and his travels are always a wonderful opportunity for children to discover the riches of world music, while also developing an understanding of how different cultures influence music!

On the podium will be Raimonds Gulbis, better known as a bassoonist and choral conductor, though in recent years he has increasingly taken to conducting symphony orchestras as well. Raimonds has conducted the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra “RIGA,” the Estonian Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles.
