Press information, 4 October 2024, Riga. With two symphonic music concerts in October, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) begins a concert series at Hanzas Perons. These events will be eagerly awaited reunions with outstanding conductors and brilliant, internationally recognised Latvian musicians – on 12 October audiences will be delighted by violist Santa Vizine and LNSO Conductor Emeritus Vassily Sinaisky, while on 25 October the orchestra will be joined by principal guest conductor Kristiina Poska and violinist Georg Sarkisjan. Notably, the concert series will open with maestro Vassily Sinaisky’s return to the LNSO podium – this season marks 50 years since Vassily Sinaisky became LNSO artistic director and chief conductor.
Maestro Vassily Sinaisky was LNSO artistic director and chief conductor from 1975 to 1987 and is considered one of the most outstanding driving forces in the orchestra’s history. The conductor has been recognised for promoting Latvian music, regularly programming and performing works by Latvian composers in his concert programmes. Vassily Sinaisky currently serves as chief conductor of the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor emeritus of the BBC Philharmonic, and Conductor Emeritus of the LNSO and the Malmo Symphony Orchestra.
The 12 October concert programme will feature Adolfs Skulte’s magnificent symphonic poem “Waves” and Czech composer Antonin Dvorak’s Eighth Symphony, which captures the beauty of nature, while in English composer William Walton’s musically rich Viola Concerto the soloist will be Santa Vizine, principal violist of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra. In the 25 October concert, we will hear Georg Sarkisjan as soloist in Johannes Brahms’ famous Violin Concerto. Georg Sarkisjan was for many years the LNSO’s concertmaster, while simultaneously performing with various German orchestras and chamber ensembles, and currently serves as deputy concertmaster of the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra. On the podium will be Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska, who since the 2019/2020 season has been chief conductor of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra, and since the 2021/2022 season has been principal guest conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra. The concert programme will also include Juste Janulyte’s work “Confluere” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s 40th Symphony.
Tickets for both concerts are available at www.bilesuparadize.lv. The 12 October concert “LNSO, Santa Vizine and maestro Sinaisky” is financially supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation.
