LNSO invites you to the concert performance for children “LeNeSOns and the Brothers Grimm’s Fairy Tales”

This Saturday, 17 February, at 11:00 and 14:00 at the Great Guild, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) invites young symphonic music listeners to meet the puppet LeNeSOns in the concert performance for children and families “LeNeSOns and the Brothers Grimm’s Fairy Tales.” At the event, LNSO musicians, conducted by Konstantin Petrenko, will perform several new works created by composition students of the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA), inspired by the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales, as well as German composer Engelbert Humperdinck’s splendid overture from the opera “Hansel and Gretel.” The concert performance will feature actors Anastasija Rekuta-Dzordzevica, Agris Krapivnickis and Arturs Putnins (Latvian Puppet Theatre), and the puppet LeNeSOns will journey through the world of the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales not only in stories, but also through music.

The opera’s premiere in 1893 in Weimar was conducted by Richard Strauss. “Hansel and Gretel” is Humperdinck’s best-known work.

This time, LeNeSOns, his prepared stories and music will also be accompanied by visual scenes – the pieces and fairy tales will be enhanced with overhead projections.

Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm, known worldwide as the Brothers Grimm, were among the first in the 19th century to begin collecting German and European folk tales and legends. Thanks to the Brothers Grimm, more than 200 years later we are still familiar with fairy tales such as “Cinderella,” “Snow White,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “Little Red Riding Hood” and others.

This season, too, the creative team behind the children’s beloved “LeNeSOns” concert series remains unchanged: director Paula Plavniece, playwright Klavs Mellis, while designer Evita Beta is responsible for the concert performance’s visual design.

Concert visitors are invited to arrive at least half an hour before the concert, to avoid crowding and to take their seats in the hall in good time. During the interval between the concert’s parts, visitors are invited to take part in creative activities.
