Aleksejs Bahirs is one of Latvia’s most versatile violinists, with a career spanning classical, contemporary, and improvisational music. He studied at the Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music Secondary School, the Emīls Dārziņš Music Secondary School, the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, where he earned master’s degrees in Violin Performance and Chamber Music. A laureate of several international competitions, he was a member of Sinfonietta Rīga from 2007 to 2017 and then served as Associate Concertmaster of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra from 2017, and now is the Concertmaster of first violins. He also collaborates regularly with Kremerata Baltica.

Alongside his orchestral and chamber music career, Bahirs is actively engaged in jazz, improvisation, and contemporary music projects. He frequently collaborates with contemporary composers, records film soundtracks, and performs with ensembles including 4’33”, Brīvās Mūzikas Centrs, and Retro Ltd. A regular participant in international music festivals, he is widely recognised for his stylistic versatility and equally compelling performances in both the classical and contemporary repertoire.
