He graduated from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and further developed his vocal artistry under renowned mentors, including the legendary bass Hans Sotin.
His extensive operatic repertoire includes such major roles as Eugene Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), Escamillo (Carmen), Colline (La Bohème), Wolfram (Tannhäuser) and many other important bass-baritone roles. Alongside opera, he is an accomplished concert performer, regularly taking part in major vocal-symphonic works and collaborating with leading Latvian and international musicians. With the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Rihards Mačanovskis has performed as a soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, in Gundaris Pone’s cycle Quattro Quattro temperamenti d’amore, and has appeared several times in Verdi’s Requiem. He has also taken part in LNSO’s staged concert productions, including I Capuleti ei i Montecchi, Otello and others.
Rihards Mačanovskis has performed on important stages in Latvia and abroad and has received several professional awards, including the Great Music Award 2024 in the category “For Outstanding Artistic Achievement Throughout the Year.” His artistry is distinguished by a powerful voice, expressive stage presence and profound musical sensitivity.
