On 23 August, the tenth music festival for families and friends, “LNSO Summer House,” will open, filling the halls of Latgale Embassy GORS for three days with exciting and unforgettable musical events that will delight both adult and young listeners. Symbolically marking the 35th anniversary of the “Baltic Way,” the festival will be opened by the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, performing works by Čiurlionis and Ravel, as well as Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. The solo part in Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand will be performed by pianist Lukas Geniušas. The podium will also be taken by the Lithuanian maestro beloved by Latvian audiences, Gintaras Rinkevičius.
Gintaras Rinkevičius is one of the most outstanding, internationally acclaimed Lithuanian conductors, founder of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (1988), its artistic director and chief conductor. He has been chief conductor of the Malmo Opera and Music Theatre, and has conducted the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Weimar Staatskapelle, the Copenhagen Tivoli Symphony Orchestra and other renowned orchestras. Under his direction, opera performances have taken place at the Klaipeda Music Theatre, the Hungarian National Theatre, the Amsterdam Music Theatre, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and elsewhere. Lukas Geniušas, meanwhile, has established himself as one of the most captivating pianists of his generation. He performs regularly at major international festivals, including La Roque d’Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins, Rheingau, the Ruhr Piano Festival, Schloss Elmau and the Lockenhaus Chamber Music Festival, and collaborates with outstanding European and American orchestras. Known for his innate curiosity and broad musical interests, Lukas Geniušas turns his hand to a wide repertoire ranging from Baroque music to works by contemporary composers.

The anniversary programme of the “LNSO Summer House” festival promises outstanding concerts. On the evening of 24 August, audiences can look forward to an impressive performance of Gustav Mahler’s Third Symphony under conductor Andris Poga, featuring Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Justina Gringyte together with the Latgale United Choir. On 25 August, the festival’s youngest visitors are offered a special concert performance, “A Japanese Tale,” in which composer Rihards Zalupe’s music meets Japanese folklore, with musicians of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra joined by members of the Rhythm Group of Riga’s 1st Primary School – Development Centre, and beloved actor Andris Keišs. At the closing concert of the “LNSO Summer House” festival, “Symphonic. Ethnic. Jazz.” on 25 August, the best of Latgale, jazz and symphonic music will come together. Composers Edgars Cirulis and Janis Rubiks will delight festival audiences with special new works. Performing together with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra will be the orchestra’s friends from TRIO ELPO, as well as true Latgalians – ethno-musician Liene Skrebinska and students of the Traditional Music and Jazz and Contemporary Rhythm Music departments of the Janis Ivanovs Rezekne Music School, under conductor Janis Stafeckis.

“LNSO Summer House” is organised by the LNSO in cooperation with Latgale Embassy GORS. The festival is financially supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation. For the convenience of residents of the capital, festival organisers are arranging special bus services on the Rezekne-Riga route, departing from Latgale Embassy GORS after the evening concerts on 24 and 25 August.
