Press information, 14 October. On Thursday, 17 October, at 19:00 at the Music House “Daile,” the new season of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra’s (LNSO) chamber music series will open with the concert programme “NYX Trio and Karina Tatarinova. Caks. Depictions.” The concert will feature original compositions by Latvian composers performed by NYX Trio – flautist Anete Toca, violinist Tatjana Ostrovska and pianist Ieva Sarja. These will be complemented by fragments of works by Aleksandrs Caks, read by actress Karina Tatarinova, inviting listeners on an imagined stroll through the streets of last century’s Riga, so vividly captured in Caks’ writing. Chamber music enthusiasts will hear several works for violin, flute and piano by Latvian composers – Janis Lusens’ “Music for Films That Never Were,” Lolita Ritmanis’ “Flight,” Jekabs Nimanis’ playful “Divertissement and Tango,” Marina Vidmante’s poetic “Fountain Nymph,” Vilnis Smidbergs’ Trio Sonata for violin, flute and piano, and Aleksandrs Avramecs’ “Delta.”

NYX Trio – flautist Anete Toca, violinist Tatjana Ostrovska and pianist Ieva Sarja – took their name from the ancient Greek goddess of night, Nyx. Active in concert since 2011, both in Latvia and abroad, NYX Trio’s repertoire includes works by both Western European and Latvian composers, with particular attention paid to rarely performed or even forgotten works by Latvian composers.

Meanwhile, beloved actress Karina Tatarinova, often seen on Latvian theatre stages as well as in popular television series, will this time take part in an interdisciplinary event combining music and acting. In this concert she will lead the audience in a poetic walk through the streets of Riga, honouring Aleksandrs Caks, the pioneer of Latvian urban poetry and a 20th-century Latvian poet. He was the first Latvian writer to turn to city life, revealing the harsh yet at the same time romantic side of Riga’s streets, outskirts and night life.

Tickets can be purchased at “Bilesu Paradize” box offices and online. Until 17 October, it is also possible to purchase an attractive LNSO chamber music subscription for 2024/2025, which includes five LNSO-organised chamber music concerts at the Music House “Daile” in the 2024/2025 season.
