As the orchestra bids farewell to the old year and welcomes the new, the LNSO once again embraces its characteristic versatility: this season, the festive mood will be brought to listeners by American soprano Julia Bullock, together with the Gospel Choir of Riga Cathedral Choir School under the direction of conductor Christian Reif. The New Year’s concerts will celebrate the many facets of American musical culture, from the classics – Bonds, Gershwin, and Bernstein – to contemporary composers who honour and promote the African American heritage through their music. This year’s celebration promises to be vibrant, soulful, warm – and particularly melodious.
