He first gained international recognition after winning the Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition in 2010, followed by the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award in 2011, launching a distinguished international career.
From 2018 to 2022, Rubiķis served as Music Director of Komische Oper Berlin. Since the 2025/26 season, he has been General Music Director of Staatstheater Kassel and Chief Conductor of the Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck. He has also held the position of Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Novosibirsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre, where his production of Bernstein’s Mass earned him a Golden Mask Award for Best Conductor.
A sought-after guest conductor, Rubiķis has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras and opera houses, including the Bolshoi Theatre, Lyric Opera of Chicago, English National Opera, Finnish National Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, and numerous major orchestras throughout Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
