He is the founder, Artistic Director, and Chief Conductor of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, which he established in 1989 and has developed into one of the region’s foremost orchestras.
Internationally acclaimed for his work in both opera and symphonic repertoire, Rinkevičius has conducted leading orchestras and opera companies across Europe. He has enjoyed a particularly close artistic relationship with Latvia, serving as Chief Conductor of the Latvian National Opera from 1996 to 2003 and Principal Guest Conductor from 2007 to 2009. He later served as Chief Conductor of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra (2017 to 2022) and has been a frequent guest with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and other leading Latvian ensembles.
Internationally acclaimed for his interpretations of both symphonic and operatic repertoire, Rinkevičius has conducted numerous renowned orchestras and opera companies across Europe. His repertoire spans from the Classical masters to the great Romantic works and contemporary music, and he has led acclaimed productions of operas by Wagner, Verdi, Puccini, Strauss, and other major composers.
A graduate of the Saint Petersburg and Moscow Conservatories, Gintaras Rinkevičius has received numerous international honours, including Latvia’s Grand Music Award and the Order of the Three Stars, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to musical life in the Baltic region.
