In 1991, he founded the Ensemble Matheus, which has become one of Europe’s leading period-instrument ensembles and is celebrated for its innovative projects that combine early music with contemporary artistic influences.
Spinosi is a regular guest at many of the world’s foremost opera houses and festivals, including the Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Theater an der Wien, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Salzburg Festival. He has conducted leading orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, appearing at iconic venues including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, Royal Albert Hall and the Palais Garnier.
A celebrated opera conductor, Spinosi is particularly admired for his interpretations of Rossini, Vivaldi, Bizet and the French symphonic repertoire. He has collaborated with many of today’s leading artists, including Cecilia Bartoli, Philippe Jaroussky, Rolando Villazón, Janine Jansen, Maxim Vengerov, Maria João Pires and Jakub Józef Orliński. His extensive discography for labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Naïve and Decca has received numerous international awards and widespread critical acclaim.
