Markus Marquardt

German bass-baritone Markus Marquardt is one of the leading interpreters of the German heroic baritone repertoire and a distinguished performer of Italian opera.

A long-standing member of the Semperoper Dresden since 2000, he has sung many of the great Wagner, Verdi, Strauss and Mozart roles, including Wotan, the Flying Dutchman, Rigoletto, Jochanaan, Scarpia and Iago. He has also appeared at many of the world’s foremost opera houses, including the Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Opéra National de Paris, the Canadian Opera Company and the Dutch National Opera. Alongside his operatic career, Marquardt is a highly regarded concert singer, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann, Vladimir Jurowski and Fabio Luisi.
