Foundation and supporters

The LNSO Foundation was established with the aim of creating a platform for meaningful public engagement in the orchestra’s development. Although the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra is a well‑functioning and self‑sufficient ensemble, public initiative is essential as a guarantor of the orchestra’s continued growth. With the endorsement of the LNSO, activities related to attracting external funding and administering targeted donations are carried out by the LNSO Foundation.

In 2016, the LNSO Foundation was also granted the status of a public‑benefit organization in the fields of charity and cultural promotion. Therefore, donations transferred to the LNSO Foundation in support of these areas are considered eligible expenses and, pursuant to Article 10, Paragraph 1, Clause 3 of the Law on Personal Income Tax, may be deducted from the donor’s annual taxable income.

For nearly a century, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) has served as a high‑quality platform for the professional growth of musicians—both within the orchestra itself and through the engagement of guest artists and conductors.

The LNSO has carried Latvia’s name across the world, performing on such renowned stages as the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Philharmonie de Paris and Théâtre des Champs‑Élysées, the Grand Théâtre de Provence, and many other significant concert halls throughout Europe. The orchestra has participated in festivals in France, Germany, and Switzerland, as well as the Bratislava Music Festival.

With the support of LNSO Foundation donors, audiences in Latvia have had the opportunity to experience several exceptional concerts. This support was especially important during the Covid‑19 period, when—thanks to the Foundation’s financial contribution—listeners in Latvia and abroad could enjoy concerts free of charge via a newly created digital platform.

The Foundation has also been a cornerstone in involving students from regional music schools in Latvia’s cultural life, offering them the opportunity to visit the capital, attend classical music concerts, and meet legendary guest artists and conductors in person.

With the Foundation’s help, the orchestra was able to acquire a much‑needed musical instrument—a bassoon. The Foundation has also participated in the charity concert “Es nākšu, lai Tu dzīvotu” in support of Sondra Zaļupe and other melanoma patients. In early 2022, responding to the global political situation, the Foundation supported opportunities for Ukrainian war refugees in Latvia to attend LNSO concerts.

Unfortunately, the orchestra cannot fully develop or offer high‑quality concert programs relying solely on ticket revenue and existing state funding. Many musicians are still forced to perform on aging or low‑quality instruments, and young talents are drawn away from Latvia by more attractive remuneration elsewhere. Therefore, we kindly ask admirers of Latvian culture—and especially of classical music—to support the work of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and lend a helping hand to the growth of young talent. Even a small donation will make a meaningful contribution to the continued high‑quality work of Latvia’s most important orchestra.

LNSO FOUNDATION PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES

Alongside its core work, the LNSO Foundation and the LNSO pay close attention to and participate in various projects that highlight social responsibility: – charity initiatives aimed at raising awareness of specific issues (support for melanoma patients, hospice care, etc.), – activities promoting and increasing access to symphonic music, – as well as support for emerging musicians and LNSO performers (Excellence Award, acquisition of instruments, access to LNSO dress rehearsals for students from all over Latvia).
